DOOM x RAW Rolling Papers: New Contest

Hip-Hop supervillain DOOM recently released a deluxe 10-piece vinyl box set chronicling his entire Special Herbs instrumental series (for sale here). To celebrate, Nature Sounds and Raw Rolling Papers are launching a new contest, giving some lucky winners a heavy dose of herbs, plus some papers to roll them up. Details below.
Contest Question: Name as many vocal songs as you can that use production from the Special Herbs box set, whether the song was recorded by DOOM or another artist. List the title of the vocal song and the artist who recoreded it. Whoever names the most songs by October 19th wins.
How To Enter: Email contest entries to contest@nature-sounds.net.
Prizes: The grand prize contains a Special Herbs vinyl box set, a Raw prize pack, and a Nature Sounds prize pack. Check out what each contains to the right. In addition, five runner-ups will win a grab-bag of Raw rolling products, plus a download code giving digital access to the entire Special Herbs series.

Icebird “Charmed Life” Remix Contest
This week marks the release of The Abandoned Lullaby, the brand new album from producer rjd2 and singer-songwriter Aaron Livingston, a pair that collectively makes up the duo Icebird. Last week, Icebird released the album’s latest single, “Charmed Life,” and now, rj and Aaron are giving fans a chance to remix the new song, with the grand prize winner receiving a variety of big money prizes.
The contest, presented by Native Instruments and SoundCloud, is now underway and will end on October 31st at 11:59pm EST. The stems for “Charmed Life” can be downloaded directly from the contest page, and all finished remixes can be submitted using the DropBox button also found on the contest page. rjd2 and Aaron Livingston will hand select the contest’s grand prize winner, who will receive one MASCHINE MIKRO and one KOMPLETE 8, courtesy of Native Instruments, along with a one year Premium Pro Account, courtesy of SoundCloud.
To kick off the remix festivities, Icebird is excited to present a brand new, official remix for the single. Titled “Charmed Life (Candy Panther Remix),” the track pulls from the original’s mesmerizing melody, but rather than being driven by the piano keys of the album version, the remix layers a mix of washed, warbled synths and jumpy percussion that offers a more subdued take on the song, while maintaining the funky elements that have made the single a fan-favorite.

The Stussy Make Beats Contest is about the fun of modern music making. Whether you’re a beat-maker, rapper, DJ or listener, this contest combines the creative aspect of making music with the fan’s point of view all tied together with some fresh tees and hats. The contest will be judged by Stussy, Low End Theory and Swedish synthesizer company, Teenage Engineering, who produced a new drum machine/synthesizer called the OP-1. In the music world today, it’s rare for a company to develop a piece of hardware, because most people use their computer to make beats. The OP-1 brings it back to the days of drum machines like the 808, when making beats meant banging them out on a machine. The Make Beats contest will start on 8/31/11 and invites the public to upload their own original tracks (made on any machine/computer) via the Stussy Make Beats Drop Box on SoundCloud. This challenging undertaking will call on producers from around the globe to remix 11 tracks from the previously released and highly notable I Vs. I album from Fortlive. In what Coalmine considers to be most dynamic remix contest to date, they have combined El Da Sensei’s Global Takeover 2 (GT2) album campaign with the promotion of their five year anniversary compilation, Can You Dig It?. Producers are required to remix “Everyday In The Street” featuring Sean Price & Bekay off the GT2 LP, using “The Warriors Theme Song” as the sample.
