iTunes: The Promise – Freestyle Fellowship

Hip-Hop supervillain DOOM recently released a deluxe 10-piece vinyl box set chronicling his entire Special Herbs instrumental series (for sale here). To celebrate, Nature Sounds and Raw Rolling Papers are launching a new contest, giving some lucky winners a heavy dose of herbs, plus some papers to roll them up. Details below.

Contest Question: Name as many vocal songs as you can that use production from the Special Herbs box set, whether the song was recorded by DOOM or another artist. List the title of the vocal song and the artist who recoreded it. Whoever names the most songs by October 19th wins.

Icebird “Charmed Life” Remix Contest

This week marks the release of The Abandoned Lullaby, the brand new album from producer rjd2 and singer-songwriter Aaron Livingston, a pair that collectively makes up the duo Icebird. Last week, Icebird released the album’s latest single, “Charmed Life,” and now, rj and Aaron are giving fans a chance to remix the new song, with the grand prize winner receiving a variety of big money prizes.

The contest, presented by Native Instruments and SoundCloud, is now underway and will end on October 31st at 11:59pm EST. The stems for “Charmed Life” can be downloaded directly from the contest page, and all finished remixes can be submitted using the DropBox button also found on the contest page. rjd2 and Aaron Livingston will hand select the contest’s grand prize winner, who will receive one MASCHINE MIKRO and one KOMPLETE 8, courtesy of Native Instruments, along with a one year Premium Pro Account, courtesy of SoundCloud.

To kick off the remix festivities, Icebird is excited to present a brand new, official remix for the single. Titled “Charmed Life (Candy Panther Remix),” the track pulls from the original’s mesmerizing melody, but rather than being driven by the piano keys of the album version, the remix layers a mix of washed, warbled synths and jumpy percussion that offers a more subdued take on the song, while maintaining the funky elements that have made the single a fan-favorite.

The Stussy Make Beats Contest is about the fun of modern music making. Whether you’re a beat-maker, rapper, DJ or listener, this contest combines the creative aspect of making music with the fan’s point of view all tied together with some fresh tees and hats. The contest will be judged by Stussy, Low End Theory and Swedish synthesizer company, Teenage Engineering, who produced a new drum machine/synthesizer called the OP-1. Attention producers, please email all submissions to coalminerecords@gmail.com no later than Monday, July 19th. Only one submission per producer will be accepted. The files for the remix contest include an MP3 file of the original version of “Destiny”, (produced by Illmind) and a WAV file of the acapella. All acapella files are zero pointed and should synchronize properly with any digital audio workstation. Music should be in an MP3 format and should default to any iTunes media player. The original version of “Destiny” is approximately 86 Beats Per Minute. The BPM of your remix may be altered from the original version of the song. Files should be labeled accordingly with song title first, followed by the producer’s name and remix in parenthesis, ie: Destiny (Joe Smith Remix).mp3. *Due to the high volume of submissions, it becomes very difficult to cross reference submissions with their corresponding email addresses and therefore it is critical to include your email address in the comment field of the iTunes info panel. In your email, please provide us with your social network URLs (Twitter/Facebook) along with your discography and bio/epk if applicable.
