Has-Lo “Hindsight” (prod by Apollo Brown) + “Limit” [video]

23 05 2013

One of our favorite East Coast emcees Has-Lo, has a new video remix utilizing new footage, new filters, and new angles for the Apollo Brown remixed version of the song Limit, now titled Hindsight. The new version from Apollo is a striped down and haunting affair that puts Has’ man on the edge lyrical display in focus.

The occassion? MMG is getting ready for an early fall release of Has-Lo’s critically acclaimed debut mmg album “In Case I Don’t Make It” on limited edition 180 gram vinyl. Has-Lo is also busy preparing a new project with North Carolina emcee Castle for release on Mello Music Group later this year.

The o.g. version of “Hindsight” was titled “Limit” and was produced by Has-Lo himself. Compare the new and the original!

Ugly Heroes (Apollo Brown, Verbal Kent, Red Pill) “Heroes Theme” [mp3]

20 05 2013

uglyHeroes

The origins of Ugly Heores stems from Apollo Brown wanting to do a heavy blue collar album that paints a real picture of life out there. Not a gangsta record. Not a hipster record. A record that paints life as it is today for a lot of the working poor. And as much as we all want to act like we aren’t the working poor – truth is, most of us are living check to check with moments of glory intersparsed with notices from electric companies that the disconnect is pending. Emcees Red Pill (Detroit) and Verbal Kent (Chicago) lay some of the rawest slice of life narratives in the game today over 15 tracks produced by Apollo Brown. Think soul drenched beats with moody horns and heavy drums. We all listen to these rags to riches stories most people sell us, but this is that rags and still hoping story. The album is Ugly Heroes.

Ugly Heroes (Apollo Brown, Verbal Kent, Red Pill) – Grave [mp3]

8 05 2013

uglyHeroesGraves

Apollo Brown is back it! His newest group with Verbal Kent and Red Pill dropped their first single today on NahRight. The track, “Graves”, is a nasty blue collar joint that lyrically stares down the reality of living in a rigged system and having to grind day after day until you’re six feet under. A heavy beat & poignant rhymes.

Ugly Heroes (Apollo Brown, Vebral Kent, Red Pill) [interview + album preview]

23 04 2013

Apollo Brown, Verbal Kent, and Red Pill recently sat down with UHF Cable Access Channel 43 for an interview about their new self-titled group album UGLY HEROES that drops 5/28/13. Hear what the record is about and check the album previews!

An Ugly Hero is considered a myth. Growing up, the heroes we saw in cartoons and movies were perfectly chiseled, intelligent, and had senses none of us possess. An UGLY HERO is the everyday blue collar individual that makes the world go ’round. These are the heroes that work hard all day, everyday to help ensure that the lives around them are taken care of, and do it all without recognition. They wear themselves into the ground and sacrifice vanity for family.

Apollo Brown, Verbal Kent, and Red Pill are UGLY HEROES.
