Seattle producer Def Dee signed a development deal with MMG a little over a year ago and was given access to the vaults. His task was to produce a full length album weaving together new songs, fresh instrumentals and a few remixes with new verses. The result is 33 and a Third, a compilation in thirds. “ALL IT TAKES” is the first reduex Dee created from the Magestik Legend joint of the same title, off of The Great Escape.

Space needle producer Def Dee is easy to catch pushin’ the lac, blowin’ trees, and bumpin’ something fresh. He’s like most young 20-somethings. The difference is, that what Dee’s pushin’ out the speakers is usually his own concoction. When Dee signed a producer development deal with MMG last year, there was no rush, just a desire to hear what the promising beatsmith could do with a little time, some access, and an outlet.
Today, Def Dee is excited to share Numb Again (feat. yU & Hassaan Mackey) the first track off of his upcoming spring release, 33 an’a third. The album is a remix compilation with a twist. Dee took unreleased verses from his MMG brethren, along with some classic verses, and started remixing. Then he called in the spittas to fill in the blanks with entirely new bars. The results speak for themselves. Numb Again features an unreleased yU verse that was originally for his group The 1978ers. After Dee remixed it, he called up the gravel voiced Rochester MC Hassaan Mackey to lay an all new verse down. The result: numb.
DJ Soko and Apollo Brown, two thirds of acclaimed group The Left, command you to “Stand Up.” For this brazen order, Soko enlists Brown on the boards and the incomparable mic skills of Guilty Simpson and Hassaan Mackey.
The 4th installment in Mello Music Group’s monthly 7” series finds Apollo finessing a triumphant horn loop that would make Pete Rock proud, while Soko adds personality to the beat via a scratch chorus made up of declaratives from past classics by Pharoahe Monch and M.O.P.. Motor City rhyme animal Guilty Simpson stomps into the track, providing a sixteen bar reminder why he’s one of the fiercest on the mic today. Low Budget’s Hassaan Mackey takes the baton from Guilt, inviting you to take his lines “like a razor to the throat.” Two raw MC’s going for theirs over an equally unprocessed beat; there is little gloss present here, this is meat-and-potatoes rap for hungry heads.
Sean Born teamed up with Kev Brown to create his debut album which dropped to start the year. Since then Sean has been doing shows, recording tracks, and shooting videos to give people a look Behind The Scale. On this album Quest literally takes you back to the era of hip hop where you listened to hip hop in your headphones which pretty much is the theme of the album. not to mention finding good rappers for his tracks and succeeding. Quest keeps your head nodding in the beats , letting the mc’s flow over the beat at their own pace , throwing in a lot of movie quotes , and showing his range as a producer.
Sean Born releases a new single “Bullsh*t” off his upcoming debut Behind The Scale. The new song features Daily Bread emcee Hassaan Mackey and is produced by Kev Brown. “Bullsh*t” captures the tone of the album, featuring a crackling piano loop and reality rap that brings back memories of Raekwon’s “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx”.
