In honor of The Micranots upcoming performance of Obelisk Movements at the 7th Street Entry I wanted to explore and share the stories that are the seeds to the creation of that powerful and influential album. We also discuss many unknown factors about the album itself, including how it was recorded, hidden lyric meetings, and more! The result is a ten-video series where they will discuss some of the most pivotal and memorable steps in their career.
In Part One I Self Devine and Kool Akiem expound on how they first met and the early crews they formed, such as Metro Unit and Universal Vibe Squad, to name a few, and how that eventually lead to the birth of The Micranots, including the meaning behind the name.

After a ten-year hiatus, I Self Devine and DJ Kool Akiem return to 7th Street Entry for a one night only performance. Celebrating the digital release of their 2000 underground classic “Obelisk Movements”, they will be performing songs exclusively from the album.
On March 26th 2013 “Obelisk Movements” will be available for sale digitally for the first time through iTunes and the Fifth Element website along with the original pressing of “Obelisk Movements” on CD, also available as a bundle option with an exclusive new Limited Edition Micranots T-Shirt.
Tickets go on sale for the release party on Friday 2/1 at 11am CST and are available through the First Avenue Box Office and the Fifth Element – 2411 Hennepin Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55405
