Today FRSH SLCTS is proud to premiere the new single from Grillade the Portland-meets-Bay-Area “soul rock” band made up of singer Ragen Fykes, producer Kyle Pierce (formerly Keelay), & live band The Park, best known to some for their EP w/ Big K.R.I.T. for Yours Truly, or their work with the likes of Freddie Gibbs, Tanya Morgan, Jesse Boykins III, Darondo, and more.
After a quiet past few months from the group while they were recording their forthcoming full-length debut, the band returns today w/ a free download of “I’d Love To Change The World” their timely re-working of the 1971 classic by rock band, Ten Years After.
CSB Worldwide representer Nick Pratt has come together with The DJBooth to bring listeners his latest album release, Middle Finger Music. The follow-up to 2011’s The New Cool, the album features 13 original cuts (and one bonus cut) from the Lone Star State representative. Included on the tracklist are reader-approved leaks “I Feel Good,” “Comin Dyne Clean” and “Mac & Me.” Joining Pratt on the guest tip throughout Middle Finger Music include Mac Miller, UZOY, Muzik Jones Drew, and Jaehill. Credited producers include K-Salaam & Beatnick, Beewirks, Keelay, Lazy J, Brandon Lee, Cassius G, Nice Rec, T.A.S.K., J. Moore, and P. Fish.
On Thursday, September 23rd – VTech Phones & Fresh Selects presented yet another live band’s debut in Portland, where else could it happen at but The Fix. Although, this debut was actually a little bit more of a homecoming – as Grillade’s lead singer is actually Portland’s own Ragen Fykes, however – she & her San Francisco counterparts, Keelay, The Park and Nate Mercerau – had yet to bring this latest project of theirs home just yet, despite already playing all around San Francisco, L.A. and both SXSW and CMJ festivals in 2010.
Captured above is Grillade’s blues ballad romp, “Remains The Same” – highlighting both Ragen’s heartwrenching vocals which brought the crowd to church & herself to her knees, as well as axeman Nate Mercerau entering what Ragen dubbed “the shred zone” for an incredible guitar solo.
Check out the video and let us know what you think of one of our favorite new groups – Grillade.

I just wanted to get this collection of Music/Beats out to everybody as a seasons greetings, something to vibe to as you do whatever it is you do at this time of the holidays. All of the music below was created by myself, and some of the most amazing musicians I know, The Park and Nate Mercereau. We all have a couple projects coming together very soon and this is just a little sample of what it is going to sound like. Thanks in advance for listening, as always, and have a safe Holiday season!
