Corina Corina – Wrong Direction (prod by Has-Lo) [mp3]

16 04 2013

corinaCorinaWD

Inspired by Nas’ “Black Zombies,” a young Corina Corina penned a song with a similar theme from her own perspective as a young woman. After tweaking the lyrics for almost ten years, she was anxious to finally unveil this deeply personal song on her debut album, The Eargasm. She called upon her good friend, rapper/producer Has-Lo of Mellow Music Group, because she knew his moody, understated production would provide the perfect backdrop for her intense lyrical delivery. The final product illustrates the mixed messages women recieve from the media, which conspire to make them feel as if they’re never quite good enough. But we all know that every woman is beautiful, and Corina is happy to provide a reminder.

Funky DL – Jazzmatic [Nas Remixes]

29 03 2013

JAZZMATIC LO REZ - 5X5

Just imagine if this happened and picture the setting…

It’s the late 1930’s and local jazz club is packed to the brim with people awaiting the rapper Nas and his jazz musicians (orchestrated by Funky DL) along with featured artists to come and play a 10-track set to forever be remembered. The lights are dim and the hall is filled with smoke, whilst the clinking sound of champagne flutes ambiently gesture in the atmosphere. Nas and Funky DL are having their picture taken outside the club in an array of spotlights glaring from their vehicles (see artwork). Then it happens… The two step inside the club and “JAZZMATIC” erupts … All you have to do now is… “press play”…

We’re sure you’ll agree that this is a phenomenal project and ask you to share this with as many hip-hip and good music fans as you can find.

Esohel – High Off Power [mp3]

25 02 2013

HioffPower_zps6ac3630b

Esohel picks up where Nas left off on “Gave You Power” with his latest remake titled “High Off Power”. The original song tells a story through the point of view of a gun which eventually is used to serve its purpose. On the remake Esohel continues where the classic ends painting imagery of the trials and tribulations the power of the gun brings.

Off upcoming remake mixtape “Nacho Usual” (Spring 2013)

Nas x Aerosmith + Frank Sinatra “Street Dreams” (CHEATCODE Remix) [mp3]

12 02 2013

nasAerosmithSinatra

Massachusetts-based producer CHEATCODE gives Nas’ classic “Street Dreams,” taken from his sophomore album It Was Written, a rather imaginative mashup of the time-honored single. By combining elements of both Aerosmith’s 1973 single “Dream On” and Ol’ Blue Eye’s vintage ballad “Young at Heart,” over CHEATCODE’s crushing percussion, trembling bassline and crunchy synths, the Commonwealth producer skillfully blends over five decades of music history into one seamless remix. Conceptually, the remix reveals the juxtaposing vantage points of a young Nas revisiting his childhood dreams of being rich, while a seasoned Frank Sinatra dreams of buying back his youth. This remix is now available for free download. #CHEATCODE

Just in case y’all forgot, I base my list on:

1) Beats selection
2) Lyrics and content that make sense
3) Flows and wordplay and your voice
4) I don’t care how many records you sold and how much your record was played on commercial radio, I live hip hop culture and I respect my pioneers that allowed me to do hip hop as a career
5) Concepts and overall body of making a full LP including the sequence of how your LP flows is so important when I pop it in my sound system

I still judge listening to music on either a boom box or driving in my ride, no iPods and shit. I stick to tradition of how hip hop was played when it made an impact on my life.

As I say every year, if you don’t like my list, fuck it make your own!

One note I will make: I meant to list the Game’s “Jesus Piece” in my list and it was an oversight so I won’t change this list because of my mistake. I still wanted to make a note of it being that I liked his album and I’m still bumpin it in the ride.

Let the hate begin…
