Both members of Dark Time Sunshine – Northwest oldominion rapper Onry Ozzborn and Chicago producer Zavala – have long suffered from anxiety, carrying the constant weight of fear of these symptoms coming on at a moments notice. Their latest album, ANX, fully encapsulates their respective disorders – and at the same time became an outlet through which they both overcame them. The creation of music is the essential part of their lives – an escape, a place of serenity – also an outlet to vent their emotions. The most extremes of emotions: panic/patience, happiness/depression, strength/weakness, love/hate & trust/betrayal.

The mood of the album reflects these extremes and is bi-polar at times, from calm to manic. The production set by Zavala is a backdrop that identifies with overcoming anxiety and panic attacks, based mainly in analog synthesizers and heavy drum breaks. Drawing inspiration from not only the classic hip hop and psychadelia they are known for, but jazz and electronic as well, which gives the album it’s tension and release, an added flicker of unpredictability.Mature and confident, ANX is a valiant album about taking control of one’s life and overcoming the fears that restrain us all.
