ProbCause and Lembo – Don’t Look Down [audio]

The sound of Chicago seems to be on the forefront of new trends in hip hop in recent years with talent like Chance The Rapper, Chief Keef, Vic Mensa … and of course, ProbCause. The rapper has become known as somewhat of a genre chameleon – he can casually jump from electronic to funk to R&B, then back to classic boom-bap gritty rap, and still retain that unique ability to make you reminisce with his captivating storytelling.
On exquisite LP, Drifters, released on Gramatik’s Lowtemp label in 2015, we hear Probcause blend Chicago’s past and present on a record packed with impressive guest artists and equally talented beatmakers. Tying all the different elements together, ProbCause’s percussive delivery flows harmoniously from one to another, proving he is one of the most versatile emcee’s in the game.
More recently, Probcause demonstrated his ability to adapt to every genre or beat the producers throw at him with his latest EP, ‘Distractions.’ And it was the title track from this release where he first teamed up with Lembo, a young producer/guitarist duo from New Orleans, who were responsible for the catchy instrumental over which Prob laid his trademark bars. Paul Provosty and Logan Sellers had both done a few solo projects before, but when they joined forces as Lembo there was an immediate connection. Ever since, the pair have been successfully bringing old school funky vibes to a modern setting. “Don’t Look Down†is the first single off the upcoming ProbCause & Lembo EP, out on Lowtemp in June.
