General Monks is the result of a collaboration between California natives Planet Asia and TriState. Both artists come to this project with an impressive roster of achievements under their belts. Since starting out as a fledgling MC in LA in the early nineties, Tristate has developed his signature vibrato and laid it over beats made by the likes of DJ Khalil, Thayod Azur, Soul Nana, The Alchemist and Statik Selektah. For his part, Planet Asia has been nominated for a Grammy and won several awards since he started rapping in Fresno, CA in 1992. Now based out of San Francisco, he has won The Source Magazine’s Independent Album of the Year twice, and works with some of the biggest names in the business. The two rappers are not strangers to each other, first joining forces on the multi-artist joint project Gold Chain Military. Tristate’s lyricism and Planet Asia’s gritty, cocksure attitude play off each other making General Monks a musical force to be reckoned with.
General Monks has cut their first album titled “Each Step Becomes Elevated”; it is set to be released late May, 2011. Look for tracks featuring Rass Kass, Krondon as well as production by Evidence and Rel!g!ion.
