New Orleans emcee Truth Universal presents the self-directed music video for “Motivated”, the DJ Waht-produced single “Motivated”, from his new album Invent The Future featuring Rakaa Iriscience of Dilated Peoples, Khrysis!, Kev Brown, P.U.D.G.E., Lyrikill, Shawde Banx and AF THE NAYSAYER. “Motivated” features guest vocals from singer Sybil Shanell, and the video was edited by Legaux for Legaux Blox. Born in Trinidad, Truth moved to New Orleans at age 4, and 2000 saw his first release, the Dashiki Dialogue 12″. Truth was forced to relocate temporarily to Houston after Hurricane Katrina, dropping his debut album Self-Determination around that time and following up with Guerrilla Business. “DJ Waht chopped the drums off EPMD’s ‘Jane’,” says Truth of “Motivated”. ” I brought the lyrics. Sybil listened to the content and freestyled this hook. I love Hip Hop, and no matter how difficult entities which may have some sort of gate keeping status make it for us, I’m motivated to overcome the BS. ” Invent The Future is out now on iTunes.
