Johnny Popcorn – Love The Abuse [audio]

Philadelphia, based progressive soul band, Johnny Popcorn, announce the release of “Love the Abuse,” the first single from their forthcoming debut LP, slated for an October release. The band has worked and performed with many notable artists, including Bilal, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, RJD2, Robert Glasper Experiment, Oddisee, Ladi6 and Kindred & the Family Soul.

Johnny Popcorn is emcee/producer/singer, Hezekiah, producer/bassist Tone Whitfield and vocalist Jani Coral. Before forming Johnny Popcorn, Hezekiah released music with Rawkus Records, in addition to working extensively, writing and producing for renowned neo-soul artist Bilal. Like Hezekiah, Whitfield’s background is also in production, working with notable artists like Me’shell Ndegeocello and Zap Mama. Johnny Popcorn’s sound derives from a blending of Hezekiah’s rock influences and Coral’s soulful vocals.

Johnny Popcorn will be heavily touring this fall to promote their upcoming LP. They are performing at notable venues, such as The Trocadero Theatre (Philadelphia), Club Church (Boston) and the 8th Annual Natural Festival (Richmond).
