Corey King will release his album “Lashes” on September 9th via Ropeadope. The accomplished multi-instrumentalist has been able to comfortably maneuver between the worlds of Jazz, Hip Hop and Soul performing alongside Esperanza Spalding, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Jason Moran, Mos Def, Gil-Scott Heron, DJ Premier, Bilal, and many others.

His upcoming album was inspired after a short stay in Berlin in 2013. While on tour with Esperanza Spalding, King started experimenting with both electronic and acoustic configurations to pass time after sound checks and late nights in hotels. The recording for “Lashes” began in the Winter of 2014 in Brooklyn, NY and the idea was to take sequences out of his computer workstation and meld them with a live band. Featured musicians on “Lashes” includes Alan Hampton (bass), Matthew Stevens (guitar), Justin Tyson (drums) and Vicente Archer (bass).

Today, check out the first single from the upcoming album for the track “Ibaraki” named after the Northeastern area of Japan where the song was written. The song features Corey King on vocals, Wurlitzer, and synths, Matthew Stevens on guitar, Alan Hampton on bass and Jamire Williams on drugs.
