On Oct. 28th, Manifesto Records will release the first ever US reissue compilation for The Lafayette Afro Rock Band vs Ice “AfroFunkExplosion!” The Lafayette Afro Rock Band (or Ice, as they came to be known after lead-singer Bobby Boyd left the group), came from Long Island, NY and remained largely unknown in the US. They traveled to Paris to work with legendary producer Pierre Jaubert and recorded some of their best known work which has ultimately been re-discovered by DJs and Producers – being sampled by the likes of Public Enemy, Jay-Z, Biz Markie, Flying Lotus and many others.

“AfroFunkExplosion!” features some of the band’s most recognizable work with more obscure songs taken from their alternative group names of Crispy & Co and Captain Dax. The 2-CD package comes w/ rare band photos and full liner notes.

Today, check out two songs taken from the upcoming reissue compilation for the song “Hihache” under the Lafayette Afro Rock Band name and “Don’t Wonder Why” under the name Ice.
