Googie, a New York City bred emcee, has been caught in the bourgeois cultural shift that permeates the borough in his new video for “Gentrified Chicken.” Jeff Markey provides the pace, setting musical arrangement as Googie tries to escape the invasion of the middle class. Googie hits us with a marathon stream of consciousness as the sounds and visuals, provided by seasoned music video director, Mike Petrow, play out like the opening montage of an American action television series of yore.
Googie’s engaging character and energy have established him as a beloved staple of the NYC hip hop scene, gracing tracks with veterans such as Blockhead and billy woods. He is a member of Queens-based hip hop supergroup The Karma Kids, as well as the band leader of Quarter Water. “Gentrified Chicken,” which appears on Googie’s 2016 album, ‘Tis What ‘Tis, is available where music is streamed and sold.
