Calvin Valentine – KSS [audio]

Los-Angeles based producer, multi-instrumentalist, singer, and emcee Calvin Valentine is preparing to release his newest album Keep Summer Safe on September 14th via Mello Music Group. In anticipation, today he shares another single via Highsnobiety entitled “KSS” – a feel-good track highlighted by Valentine’s precise lyricism and a harmonically-rich hook. About the new single, Calvin comments:

“I wrote ‘KSS’ on January 1st 2018. I had the flu and was feeling down and out physically. But my spirits were high cause I had seen my two favorites John Mayer and Dave Chappelle perform at The Forum for New Years also just ate some ganja food. I forced myself to go in the studio cause I always want to make something the 1st day of the new year. I ended up making the beat out of a song my girlfriend (Danielle) had made. Once the beat was together the hook just popped into my head. It took all my energy to record it but I kept those recordings for the final version cause you can feel the emotions in those takes. The song is my MJ Flu Game.”

“KSS” follows the release of Vhs feat. Illa J (via HipHopDX) and 911 Turbo – both included on the upcoming ten-track collection, Valentine’s Mello Music Group solo debut. For this collection of stoney tracks, Calvin lends his lush production, singing, and rhymes for a sound that mixes chilled out R&B and hip-hop vibes. Described by Valentine as “ever evolving music for your soul”, the album provides joyous relaxation for listeners; a stoner’s haven for eclectic sounds and vibes.

Despite his youth, Valentine (aka the Bong Mayer) has already become a multi-talented music veteran – producing for legends like De La Soul, Nas, and more recently – Interscope signee Ryan Beatty. In addition for producing for big industry names, he’s also worked with the likes of Bun B, Devin The Dude, Juicy J, Boogie, and of course Dilla’s younger brother, Illa J. He’s had music licensed for Nike, Skype, MTV, and more with a sound that lends itself to film and television, but the west coast musician is best known in the beat scene for his uncompromising work behind the boards. Stay tuned for more from this multi-talented Eugene, Oregon native.
