WAX TAILOR – Misery feat. Rosemary Standley [video]

World renowned French orchestral hip hop producer Wax Tailor returned earlier this year with hip hop electro-funk banger “Keep It Movin” featuring US Rap sensation D Smoke. Today, he has announced his first new full length album in 5 years, The Shadow Of Their Suns, a dark, elegant and symbolic collection due out January 8, 2021 and featuring a prestigious cast of guests including Gil Scott-Heron, Mark Lanegan, Adeline, Del The Funky Homosapien & Mr Lif, Yugen Blakrok and Boog Brown. Today he reveals lead single “Misery” (ft. Rosemary Standley).

“Misery” (ft. Rosemary Standley) arrives alongside a futuristic video telling a cautionary tale. Entirely in motion design by Berkay Turk, the video draws a dystopian portrait of a society under surveillance and authoritarian rule in which the characters hide their emotions and expressions behind emoticons. These masks illustrate the uniformity of this society, serving as a parable, symbolic of the omnipotence and predominance of social networks. This new “opium of the people” have invaded all fields of representation from everyday life in society to art and religion. The ethereal chorus phrase “Misery Is My Friend” is repeated like an antiphrasis mantra throughout the song. A rhetoric formula to resume that for a lot of people even in the richest countries, misery is like a second skin.
