Kev Brown, J-Scienide, DJ Jon Doe – Cutlass Supreme [audio]

With their latest single, “Cutlass Supreme,” the soulful, DMV-based duo of Kev Brown and J-Scienide continue to seamlessly combine insightful rhymes, sample-driven breaks, and jazzy grooves.

“Taking a moment to look back on life and taking inventory on certain things” is how Brown approached the track both lyrically and production-wise. Scienide feels his direction for the second single from their forthcoming Stray From the Pack LP reflects “how sometimes life has more downs than ups.” Continuing to note how their contribution impacts the track’s title, he continues, “gotta grab those keys and navigate that Cutlass!”

With funky cuts supplied by DJ Jon Doe, “Cutlass Supreme” falls on the heels of the album’s debut leak, “Out the Safari,’ which features a similar vibe driven by Scienide’s head-nodding production. Hearing the two well-respected talents dig with depth and scope into their vaunted craftsmanship again yields dividends. This full-length LP follows 2019’s Drum Machine Tape Cassette, the duo’s first collaborative offering.

“Cutlass Supreme” is available now through all major digital retailers and streaming platforms and can be downloaded for ‘instant grat’ off the pre-order for Stray From the Pack. The 12 track LP is due out Jan. 08 digitally through their Static King imprint via Fat Beats Records and on vinyl in limited quantities by way of De Rap Winkel Records.
