For the latest installment in “Awthentic First Thursdays” from JSWISS and Awthentic Records, JSWISS teams up with his father, DBC, for their first ever collaboration, and DBC’s first release in decades. Throughout life, music has taken DBC through phases as a drummer, saxophone player, singer and songwriter, and music tastemaker, including several years running the trailblazing I SPY SOUL music website he found. Music is in the lineage as his father (JSWISS’ grandfather) Bernard Caldwell sang as part of the gospel group The Spiritualaires of Columbia, SC in the 1950s. All three generations have had the distinct honor of performing at the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem, NYC.

“My dad is the primary reason why I fell in love with music as a child and eventually became an artist myself. Besides him being the one to expose me to all different types of music during my childhood, from jazz to hip-hop to soul to funk, he also passed down musical talent in his blood. Even though my dad hasn’t been very active on the artist front since I began creating music myself, he’s a lifelong artist so I’m glad this collaboration finally happened, and with a song that’s a hot record on its own. We have an amazing relationship, so if you know us, you know this was inevitable.” – JSWISS
