Jason James & Rodney Hazard – Tomorrow [mp3]

The hip-hop cynic will tell you that the golden days of hip-hop are over and that club anthems and odes to money, cars and clothes dominate the market. Those with a class half-full perspective will argue that materialistic hip-hops popularity is fleeting and will be replaced by more substance and less flash. Either way, Jason James and Rodney Hazard are prepared for what the future holds, or so they tell us on the world premiere of Tomorrow, the third and final release off of their collab album Pyramids In Stereo. Hazard, the beatmaker for the duo, molds an ambient, spooky beat to set the stage for James’ powerful performance. With a passionate, aggressive flow and a twinge of anger James vents his frustration at a game which values style of substance and what he plans to do should hip-hop never change. For more contemplative cuts, be sure to check out Pyramids In Stereo, due out next week via DJBooth.net
