KING “Shit Show” official music video
Danish pop sensation KING’s new record ‘Shit Show’ is sultry, tongue-in-cheek and instantly infectious: a kaleidoscopic neo-soul anthem to kick start your 2019.
Written & directed by KING & Tatjana Tokyo
Shot & edited by: Tajana Tokyo
Produced by VOID aka Berkay Birecikli – whose credits include work with FKA Twigs and Lana del Rey – Shit Show creeps up on you. Starting with sparse chords and stripped back drums, KING’S breathy vocal soon takes centre stage with lyrics that are at once powerfully independent and self-depreciating. And then, out of nowhere, it transforms completely via filtered broken beats and rave-inspired synth stabs for a finale that walks the line between uplifting and poignant.
“’Shit Show’ is about how I’m such a loser but I still feel super-cool at the same time. I feel like a lot of music right now is sounding too forced and I don’t want to be a part of that scene. When we sat down VOID and didn’t have any references: it was just fun, playful and effortless.†KING
Shit Show will be accompanied by the release of a music video. Directed by KING and Tajana Tokyo, it perfectly encapsulates the playful nature of the record via a mix of still images and ultra-low budget filming, kept in check with her vibrant personality and breathtaking dance ability.
She continues:”The video was easy to create. Tajana Tokyo (from London but lives in LA) has her own style and I wanted her touch on this visual. I felt like doing something with a lot of humor, since pretty much every music video nowadays is so fucking serious. I’m pushing the boundaries with what I’m doing: I’d rather end up a failing original than a successful copycatâ€. KING
