Haven risen to prominence as one of Australia’s most in-demand beatmakers, Ta-ku is back with a new duo project Please Wait, in collaboration with Canadian artist matt mcwaters. To be released on Ta-ku and Jakarta Records’ joint label venture 823, Please Wait share the new single ‘Rush (ft. alayna)’ on December 3rd, taken from the upcoming ‘Black & White’ EP.
Following on from the ‘Flight 99 (ft. Masego)’ single, ‘Rush’ enlists the vocal performance of Auckland, NZ based singer-songwriter and Spotify favourite alayna. The single shares a candid reflection of the heartache that comes with ending a once loving relationship. Coupled by moody strings and electronic elements, ‘Rush’ is a tale of heartbreak, swelling with emotion.
Please Wait is the culmination of numerous online exchanges and years of sharing voice memos, stems, musical ideas & TikTok links between Ta-ku and matt mcwaters. Their cathartic approach to this body of work has been more about self-expression than anything else and has culminated in an EP that covers a range of issues and experiences from different times in their lives.
Ta-ku’s 823 label represents the appreciation for the people/ideas/places that inspire and push us forward. The artwork is shot by the artist, and each release has an accompanying photo zine that acts as a visual story to compliment the music.
‘Rush (ft. alayna)’ is available from December 3rd via 823.
